Testing Method and Implementation

Korea has five different national qualifications in engineering field which are Professional Engineer, Master Craftsman, Engineer, Industrial Engineer and Craftsman. The testing procedure for those qualifications is as below.

Planning → Question Development → Written Test → Practical Test → Assessment → Certificate Issue

B. Criteria by Categories

Category Testing Criteria
Professional Engineer Able to perform tasks related to planning, research, design, analysis, inspection, test, construction, supervision, assessment, project management and technology management based on advanced professional knowledge and practical experience
Master Craftsman Able to perform tasks related to work management at industrial sites, teaching and supervising skilled workers, on-the-job training and field supervision linking managers and skilled workers in an organic manner
Engineer Able to perform technical skills such as design, construction, and analysis based on engineering knowledge
Industrial Engineer Able to perform basic technology and skills based on basic technical knowledge and skills
Craftsman Able to perform tasks concerning production, manufacturing, handling, operation, repair, maintenance, extraction and inspection as well as project management and matters related to project management

C. Requirements for Testing by Categories

Category Requirements
Professional Engineer • Engineer + 4-year work experience
• University graduate + 6-year work experience
Master Craftsman • Industrial engineer(craftsman) + completion of master craftsman's training course
• Industrial engineer + 6-year work experience
• Craftsman + 8-year work experience
• 11-year work experience
Engineer • Craftsman + 3-year work experience
• University graduate + 4-year work experience
Industrial Engineer • Craftsman + 1-year work experience
• 2-year work experience
Craftsman • No requirements
